About UGC NET

  • NET stands for National Educational Test.
  • Conducted by CBSE twice in a year(June and December)
  • Determines the eligibility of an individual for the post of Lecturer / Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Vyakhyata / Pravakta.
  • It is set as the minimum standard that is to be met by lecturers in Indian Colleges and Universities
  • Candidates who qualify for Assistant Professor will not be considered for JRF award whereas if the candidate is awarded with JRF then s/he is also eligible for Assistant Professor.
  • JRF awardee can follow research in their post graduation subject
  • JRF awardees are considered for UGC fellowship.

Eligibility Conditions

Qualification

  • General candidates should have Post Graduation degree with minimum 55% whereas OBC/PWD/SC should have 50% marks
  • Candidates appearing for their examinations of Post Graduation are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates with Ph.D degree who has completed their Master’s degree are eligible for relaxation of 5% in aggregate, 50% is required.

Age

  • For JRF: Maximum age is 28 years
  • For Assistant Professor: There is no age limit

Important Information

Candidates should only appear in the subject of their post graduation. In case, the post graduation subject of the candidate is not included in the list of subjects, then the candidate can apply for another related subject.
The candidates who are awarded with the Post Graduate diploma/ certificate by Indian University or by Foreign University, must confirm their equivalence with Master’s degree of Indian Universities. from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. (www.aiuweb.org)

Who are exempted from NET?

Candidates with Ph. D Degree are exempted from NET/SLET/SET for the recruitment of Assistant Professor or equivalent designation in Colleges/ Universities/Institutes

Benefits of NET exam

The successful NET qualifiers are eligible to get lucrative jobs in public sector. The candidates who will pass UGC NET will be eligible for all the jobs of Public Sector Undertakings. PSU’s can use these NET scores for their recruitment process.

Scheme of Test

This test consists of 3 papers which carry objective type questions. All three papers take place in two separate sessions as under:
