  • TOEFL is a Test of English as a Foreign Language that is accepted worldwide.
  • Started in 1964, it assesses the English Language level of an individual who is non-native English speaker.
  • The test is both developed and administered by ETS.
  • This exam is an entry requirement of most US and Canadian universities.
  • It examines all necessary skills of the candidate, including Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills, that are required to live in English speaking nation.
  • Various European Universities and other countries also accept TOEFL.
  • It can be paper based or internet based test, depending upon the availability of internet in the center.
  • Test is conducted many times in a year and valid for 2 years.


All non-native English speakers who wish to study in English speaking country has to go through TOEFL. This test examines the English proficiency of the candidate that will be required for academic or other purposes. Mostly required by US, European and Canadian universities and many other agencies around the world.

Eligibility Conditions

No official declaration. But intended for non- native speakers of English language.

Time Allotted

For Internet-based test (iBT): 3 hours 10 minutes to 4 hours 20 minutes
For Paper-based test (PBT) : 2 hours 20 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes.

Structure of Test

The test structure is different for internet based test and paper based test.

Internet Based test Structure

The fee for internet based test is USD 160 to USD 250 (varies from country to country)
For Paper Based Test, the test fee is USD 160

Test Scores

A candidate is graded with a score from 0 to 30 (in 1 point increment) for each section and a total score of 0 to 120 for the entire test.

Result Declaration

TOEFL exam result is declared after 10 days. You can view it online.

      If you are good in English. Nothing is difficult 🙂 . All these exam are almost similar with few differences. But if you ask about easier one then go for PTE as it can pull high scores.
