About NDA Entrance Exam

  • NDA (National Defence Academy) is a joint training academy of Indian armed forces- Army, Navy and Air Force
  • To get enter into NDA (National Defence Academy), a candidate has to clear NDA exam
  • NDA (National Defence Academy) entrance exam is conducted by UPSC
  • Held twice annually (April & October)
  • Entrance examination consists of written test followed by interview.
  • Out of, approximately, 3,20,000 candidates, only 300-350 get acceptance letter from the academy after passing this test
  • After completion of NDA training, Cadets are directed to their respective forces for pre-commissioning training

So, in short NDA is a pathway to enter into three armed forces of India.

Eligibility Criteria

Wings Educational Requirement Age Requirement
Army Class XII or equivalent examination conducted by State Education Board or a University 16-1/2 to 19 years
Navy Class XII or equivalent exam conducted by State Education Board or a University with Physics and Maths as subjects 16-1/2 to 19 years
Airforce Class XII or equivalent exam conducted by State Education Board or a University with Physics and Maths as subjects 16-1/2 to 19 years
Executive Branch (Naval academy) Class XII or equivalent exam conducted by State Education Board or a University with Physics and Maths as subjects 16-1/2 to 19 years

How to Apply?

To apply for NDA entrance exam, candidate can visit UPSC website http://www.upsc.gov.in/ The process of filling and submission of application form is very simple.

Exam Pattern for NDA

Questions of the NDA exam will be of objective type. The exam format of NDA is shown below with the time and maximum marks for each section:

Section Time allotted Maximum Marks
Mathematics 2 ½ hours 300
General Ability Test 2 ½ hours 300
Total 5 hours 600

Note: Exam will be available in both English and Hindi language
No calculators are allowed

Interview

The candidates, who successfully pass the written examination are eligible to appear into the SSB interview. SSB examines the candidates on behalf of their intelligence and personality. It includes various tests to check these skills of the cadets. In short,

  • Cadets of Army/Navy wings and Executive branch of Naval academy are assessed on the basis of the following:
  1. Written test
  2. Officers’ Potentiality Test
  • Cadets of Air Force wing, need to pass through
  1. Written test
  2. Officer’s potentiality Test
  3. Pilot Aptitude Test
